I thought the concept was interesting but for some reason, I wasn't that invested. The artwork was great.

Ich mag die My Boyfriend is a Monster-Bücher. Eigentlich.

Also My Boyfriend is a Monster-Bücher? Awesome. Dieses My Boyfriend is a Monster-Buch? Nicht awesome.

Another fun read. I liked the art, and especially loved that the Serena wasn't stereotypically feminine. It's nice to see all kinds of different girls represented in books aimed at young girls.

I'm a bit on the fence with this one, because how it dealt with the abusive dynamic in Serena's relationships with Lance. While I liked that Serena recognized that there was something wrong with Lance's violent behavior, but the ending left me concerned by how it's kind of brushes aside the very real signs of potential abuse.

I do think it's cool that these books are using the monsters as metaphors for real issues teens face, much like Buffy the Vampire Slayer tv show used to do, but this time around I don't agree with how they fetishized mental illness, and romanticized abusive relationships.

I thought the Jekyll and Hyde story was interesting, but I have have some issues with how the relationship in this story was presented.
I don't think the abusive relationship was handled properly, especially by the "adults" in the comic.

May write a full review later.

A little bit muddled and over all just *shrug*. Interesting concept though.

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not by Robin Mayhall is the seventh of the My Boyfriend is a Monster graphic novel series. This one is a reimagining of Jekyll and Hyde.

Serena Stevens is newly moved to Rojo Texas, a small town completely obsessed with football. After she attends one of the games with her friend, she finds herself with two interested boys. There's outgoing football star Lance, and reclusive and mostly homeschooled Cam.

I didn't realize this was part of a series when I picked it up, but it doesn't seem that there's much continuity between each volume in the series based on what I've read about it. This is a subpar retelling of Jekyll & Hyde with some interesting art and way too many kids and adults glossing over the protagonist's abusive behavior. Meh.
