Less confusing than book 1 (less jumping around with timelines). I love the Nigerian setting, and especially enjoyed Walter's reportage section.
Despite being the second book in a trilogy, it didn't feel like a filler building up to book 3 - I really like the way Tade Thompson has written the books starting from one character's viewpoint in Rosewater, and then building out to a wider range of viewpoints in this book. I'm looking forward to book 3!

A fantastic follow-up to Rosewater.
This installation branches further out from Kaaro as the central focus and the new perspectives are multifaceted and engaging. This world really feels like it captures the complexity of a crossing between worlds would be.
Highly recommend.

Compelling story, well-written. Not what I would call 'fun' but a good read

I liked it similarly, but the plot felt quite rushed compared to the first book

Incredible! Was so glad to have multiple POVs in this novel since Kaaro was not my favorite as the main character. The time jumps are at times confusing but added a lot of interest to the storytelling for me. We get politics, war, and of course weird alien nonsense. All the world building and set up from book one was executed upon so beautifully here. The characters and world just feel so immersive to me.

This is a level up from the first novel, which was already very good. Thompson's characters are compelling. His villains are complex and draw you to their side. The insurrection itself, while being significant to humans, is only a minor part of the story here, which is truly a choice made by humans of throwing the dice or being thrown.
