There are ages between Ellen and me, and I sure heard this distinction in the choices she made.

Listening length 11 hr, 15 min

I selected this as my pick for the 2018 PopSugar Ultimate Reading Challenge advanced prompt "a book that was being read by a stranger in a public place." While I had a couple of other options to choose from, I decided to pick this one since it was the first title that I found for it this year and this was outside of my normal reading fare.

When I first starting reading it, I thought the story showed potential and was pleasantly surprised; the writing seemed engaging and I was curious to find out what was going to happen. However, the more I read, the less I liked it. The main character's decisions drove me absolutely insane. In addition, the more I got to know almost all of the characters, the less I liked them. I almost felt like they became more flat as the story progressed. I felt like the ending was completely unrealistic and I really didn't care. So much of the plot could have been avoided if the main character had just spoken up to her sister (OR her best friend OR her husband!) the first time she was presented with the situation that drove the entire story! This would've seemed like a cliched, mid-life crisis plot if not for the fact that the main characters were 20-somethings in their first year of marriage!! The only reason I settled on a 2-star rating was because of the reader's guide questions and the fact that I did think about this one long after I finished it. That's got to count for something, right? I finished it because I was using it for a challenge prompt, but likely would've abandoned it if I'd picked it up on a whim.

Okay, so I dove into Love the One You're with for a specific challenge. I think it has also been a while since I dove into an Emily Griffin book too. So, in a way, it was kind of nice to dive into something cute-ish. Or so I thought..

In it, you will meet Ellen and Andy. They seemed like the perfect couple living a perfect marriage. Which, honestly, sounded perfectly boring. So it doesn't take long for Ellen to stray away from Andy. Now I'm not married, and I don't really have a desire to do so down the road, but I didn't really like their marriage. It just bored me.

There's Ellen trying to come up with reasons as to why her little affair (or whatever) is justified. Andy is just a limp noodle throughout the entire book. Which does absolutely nothing for me. I wanted to see something from him but he was more boring than a piece of lettuce.

Other than that, it was an okay book. The ending was pretty good and I'm happy that it's over.

Fun book, but I didn't like it as much as her other books.

Well... It´s a women book. It has all the reasons why man shouldn´t read and should hate women once in a while.
Ellen is selfish and self-centered. Immature for her age, or any age for that matter, she does really stupid thing a teenager would do.
But I get her doubts, I think there´s a book about this subject for a reason, everybody had a Leo in their life, or something like him.

Wish I could have her job.

I hated this book. The only reason I read the whole thing was because it was well written, and I liked the imagery. But holy crap, this book sucked. It felt like getting a glimpse of what it’s like inside the mind of an addict, justifying every little thing that the person knows is wrong, but they’re convincing themselves it’s right or they deserve it or it’s not that bad or whatever.

This whole book was just what’s-her-face cheating on her incredibly loving, considerate, thoughtful, respectful husband, and she flat out betrays him time and time again.

One of the worst books I’ve probably ever read.

NOTE: I listened to this book on audio.

I had a lot of problems with this book. The main character does a lot of really stupid things and isn't very likable, but I was entertained nonetheless. However, I probably won't be running out and reading other books by Emily Giffin any time soon.

Story of a newly married woman who is suddenly taken off guard when her ex-boyfriend returns to her life. Simple dilemma that takes a few twists and turns throughout the story.
