I've loved Gordon Korman's other series in the past. The one does not beat my favourite (Everest), but it was very good. Korman's books are formulaic in structure, but he specializes in creating character that make you care despite that.

My father used to SCUBA dive and I've always wanted to learn so I have a touch of fascination with the culture of diving. I guess I'll have to see where he takes the trilogy.

I don't know why I didn't like it. I just read it and I couldn't ever get into it. I was suprised because I am a big fan of Koreman. I suggest that if you read it that you should probably have some interest in diving or other water sports.

Took just a bit too long to get me invested in the characters but once it did the storyline was engaging. Looking forward to finishing the series.

An amazing introduction to the series that I'm reading back-to-back. I don't give it five stars because I simultaneously think that it's both too mature and too childish for its target audience, but the story is so captivating that I loved it anyway. The entire time I red this, however, I didn't see the characters as thirteen and fourteen year olds; a lot closer to seventeen and eighteen year olds in their attitude, abilities, and the situations that Korman put them into. Despite this, the relationships between the four main characters develop so naturally its uncanny, especially between Kaz and Star, and the independent character development that Kaz underwent throughout this plot. I look forward to further developments of Adriana and Dante's characters in the following books, and their relationship, as well as the relationships between all four of them as a group. Adriana might be my favorite character out of the four, if only for her quick wit paired with her nonchalant knowledge of history, which is always a plus for me. Ultimately, this turned out to be a very exciting read led by its four main characters and their interactions with each other, if not also by the plot that I hope will build further in this trilogy.
