I was really hoping I’d like this book. I really liked the cover and I thought the concept was really interesting. But I just couldn’t do it.

Mostly it was two things that got me. The first is the use of first person narration. It is my least favorite type of narration and in my opinion it is rarely well done. I’m not saying that the author is bad at writing, but more than first person narration in general is very hard to execute well and I’ve read only a handful of books that use first person that I’ve actually enjoyed. The second is the characters. Thomas and Rachel fall into the same types of characters as Holden (Catcher in the Rye), any male protagonist written by John Green, you know the type. The ones that are always philosophizing about something and think they are the most profound person to walk the earth. It’s just pretentious and annoying to read from.

I don’t know why this book matched my heart so undoubtedly. The ending was this huge surge of emotions that I finally let go of. My love life has basically been hectic and non-existent simultaneously and this book conjured up emotions I didn’t know existed.

I honestly didn’t expect the ending of this book (which was so minimalist) to make me shed a bucket load of tears.

Ghost sex was a bit weird but the premise of the story, the ending, Rachel, Thomas and Mark - all these things just made this book beyond special. I will hold it in my heart forever.

Thomas dies, he remembers it well. He sees an angel and how she soothes his broken body, then rejection as she disappears and he’s left in the road. He finds himself in a place from his past, experiencing the strangest conversation.

His death is an ‘error’ - because he has seen an angel before he can’t move on into the afterlife, he is returned to his body for 3 months and given rules he must follow - or he will experience ‘regrets’.

He goes through these months monotonously, going from bar to bar, pretending to be people he isn’t - just to feel alive and present whilst he still can.

That’s until he notices Rachel and everything changes. As they spend time
together they start to fall in love, and they realise they can never be together in the way they want, soon after Thomas starts to disappear.

This book is strange, it was a weird but really touching concept. Thomas and Rachel become each other’s world so completely, it’s raw and messy and absolutely beautifully written. This one will stay on my mind for a while ❤️

This was unlike any book I've ever read. The author definitely made these characters and this story unique. I won't be forgetting this story anytime soon; whether that's a good or a bad thing remains to be seen.
