Normally when you see a book released by a joint author with so,e new guy you get worried.

Don't be. This is just as awesome as the others. The new author gets MHI and treated the property well while introducing us to some new characters. Really great
Addition to the series

I wasn't quite sure how this one was going to go... I love Larry Correia's MHI world, and got super excited when I saw this was coming out. Then, I realized it was a collaboration with John Ring.

I have to say, I loved this book! As a child of the 80's, it was really awesome and mind-bending reading in a setting where car phones were brand new and pagers were the high-tech communication method. Libraries were the best place for research.

Oliver Chadwick Gardenier -- goes by Chad :) is a well-written character. He's very pro-gun (like Owen). He's off-the-charts, super-smart and really loves (and leaves) the ladies. Definitely has family issues, and ... he's on a mission from God ... where all signs point to the #57.

I really like the format of memoirs focuses mainly on the hunts, with glimpses into the overall picture that is MHI and MCB and all of the other factions that are involved in this world. There's some sort of connection between Chad and Agent Franks ... that I really hope is explained in a future book.

GREAT addition the the MHI world. I can hardly wait for the next one.

Like most series books, I enjoyed this one so much more the 2nd time. In the age of the perpetually offended, Chad is definitely not the character for them. Personally, I love Chad. The bulk of my childhood/young adult life was spent in the 80's/early 90's. Era appropriate pop culture references make my heart smile.

I also like the fact that Chad works for MHI, but has his own philosophies and codes he lives by. The touches of politics that aren't in the core Hunter books gives an interesting glimpse into the world outside of hunting. Getting to see the Nelson's in their prime is awesome. I also like that the book is mainly about the hunts ... and Pro-Tips :) The ending though, man ...

I'm happy Larry was willing to let Ringo play in his sandbox.

It was a long time since I read the Monster Hunter International series. I was therefore quite happy when I found something new had Larry Correia’s stamp on it and took place in the Monster Hunter International universe. This is a fun book to read but, sadly, I do not think it is as good as the original Monster Hunter International series. It is good, even very good, but not WOW good.

The book is obviously co-written by Larry Correia and John Ringo although I get the impression that there is more John Ringo than Larry Correia in the book. It is a fun book to read. I like both Larry’s and John’s no bullshit style of writing. If you are offended by grown up language, womanizing or are a social justice warrior then this book is not for you. Stay far, far away from it. I am not plagued by any of these issues myself so, consequently, I quite liked the book.

The book essentially follows Oliver Chadwick Gardenier, or Chad for short, from the events where he is resurrected and sent back to Earth to fight evil and through his career as a Monster Hunter. Naturally this means lots and lots of action against various supernatural creatures and monsters. As usual with these two authors the action is quite violent and guns, explosives as well as various sharp instruments are plentiful.

However the book feels a bit lighter than the Monster Hunter International books. As the name of the series indicate it is a memoire so it is essentially the main character himself that recites the story and the way it is done is by telling various memorable events from his life. This also means that, in my opinion, the book feels a bit chopped up. Sure, there is a red thread going through it but sometimes I felt like I was reading a collection of short stories strung together.

As I wrote above, this is a good and enjoyable book but a notch below the books in the original series.

I'm not sure why Correia let this other author play in his playground. This book was nothing but glorified fan-fic. Sure, it was better written than fan-fic, but it read like the wet dream of a conservative guy from the midwest who loves Japanese culture and thinks he's smart.

The whole character of Chad was wish fulfillment for Ringo. The character is smart and got all A's until he decided to get C's. Sounds like someone is trying to justify the lack of stellar academic performance in childhood. "I was really brilliant, I just chose to get C's".

The character is sexist, racist, and horribly repulsive, at the same time all of the other characters love him and he can do no wrong.

Sure, Corriea's books had some of the same problems, but they were offset by a lot of other stuff enough to make them readable. The tripe that Ringo calls a book has no redeeming qualities and I won't be reading another book by him again.

It’s a fun read..but it is not the same as the other books by the original author. It’s similar to having an itch scratched, but just near the spot, and not on the spot..

I liked this book, but I didn't like it nearly as much as I like the main Monster Hunter series by Larry Correia. I think that Chad is too good to be true and a little more multitalented than is believable. I enjoyed the book, and I found parts of it to be funny. I think I want to put the line "Nothing says I love you like a double-aught to the face" on a shirt.
