I enjoyed the beginning and the end, but the middle was a muddle and I just couldn't stay interested.

May is a strange child that other kids don't really like. She ends up in Hell, though I don't believe they call it that, and has to find her way back home with the help of strange characters. Although this is probably for pre-teens, I thought it was a little dark. This is a strange book but enjoyable if you're looking for something easy to read. And what a cute cover!

Alot of people read this when they were kids and are very nostalgic about it. I'm surprised that I am not one of those people I've only read it recently but this is exactly the type of book younger me would have loved.
It has this fantasy world that is entered by a portal it's got ghosts there are creepy elements while still having alot of heart and loveable characters.
Pumpkin is one of my favourite characters I've ever read in a kids book. He is loveable and very loyal to Maybird even during a point where she tries to push him away.
   He's so great.
People say this a lot and I agree it has a similar vibe to Coraline though this may be because it's a  spooky kids book and the two main characters look similar. There's also a cat in both!
I  loved that we have sections where we get to see from her cats point of view. I thought that was cool.
   Overall I enjoyed the book.
