This book was difficult to read through thanks to the grammatical errors and, in some places, the wrong words being used. For example, "taught" instead of "taut" and the wrong "its"--this happened a few times.
I have to say that, without the good story guiding it, I would've given up on this series a while ago. With the misplaced modifiers and run-on sentences, I had to push through. It was worth it, though the reviews for the third book make me wonder if it's worth finishing this series.

Loved that there was a wlw relationship which i did not expect whatsoever but am so happy i stumbled upon it since its rare to find especially so casually. Overall the book was good but i don’t feel as though anything important happened almost like filler. Still good and I’m ready to read the final book but this did not leave a large impact for me personally. Mixed feelings about the split POV at first it was a big turn off but i was able to appreciate it.
Graphic: Sexual assault, Slavery, Torture, Violence, War
Minor: Rape
What I liked:
-I actually enjoyed the multiple points of view.
-I liked the new characters.
-I like the writing.
What I didn't like:
-Same as the first book, I didn't like the page breaks. They are everywhere. They're jarring and make it hard to stay in the story. There's no flow.
-The pacing. The multiple POVs are very necessary in this book because it doesn't feel like a lot happens until the end. Yes there are bits and pieces happening in each story arc, but there's just as much nothing happening. Each person's story arc alone couldn't fit a short story if the nothing pieces were taken out.
-The ending. There were some moments of disbelief where you have to suspend reality to make it work.
During the read I thought I could stretch this to a 4 star book, but the ending lost it for me.

Spoiler
The tore down stone buildings and built not one but 6 full size walls within the city in one day? This would take them months. Even just tearing down the stone in the city would probably take them a week. There is 0 believably in this. Also the way Vealin comes crashing in at the end and saves the day. With his band of unarmored warriors. It felt so forced and fake.During the read I thought I could stretch this to a 4 star book, but the ending lost it for me.

While it doesn't quite capture the perfect formula of the first in the series, it's still a great story with well-rounded characters. I don't like the change to multiple points of view, but given the scope of this book compared to the first, it makes sense.
Not sure I understand some of the more negative reviews regarding the story being split between a few characters rather than just the main protagonist in the first book. This gave me a bit of trepidation before I started the book. i need not have worried. The story telling was again brilliantly compelling, I enjoyed all story lines and quite simply loved every word of the book.
Anthony Ryan is quite simply a fabulous writer and great story teller, I was so disappointed when the book ended and am just hoping his new publishers don't carry on the delaying tactics when publishing the next in the series.

Libro finiquitado.
