I read this to my son when he was younger, but he found it in the library again and read it to himself now.

The theme for one of my book clubs this month is "childhood favorites," so I gathered an assortment of some of the books I remember loving as a wee bean. This one stuck with me over the years, and often when learning or hearing about anatomy and what is happening within human bodies, I have thought to myself, "Wish I could see it via magic school bus!" The story remains delightful as an adult.

This is a great book to use when educating students about the human body. Though I did not really enjoy the book for an entertainment purpose, I did find the information very educational. I also like the fact that there is a main story plot with a lot of additional information filling up the pages in sidebars. For me, I found this feature slightly distracting when trying to focus on the plot. I would use this book with students grades 2 and up, though I feel that the information is complex enough for middle schoolers.

Once again, Ms. Frizzle takes her class on an unexpected adventure. This time, inside the human body. The class follows food cells down the esophagus, through the stomach, into the small intestine, through a blood vessel into the lungs and heart, up to the brain, down the spinal cord with a stop on a muscle, and back up to the nose. Throughout the text are interesting facts and vivid pictures that keep you interested and entertained.

Age appropriateness: 5-12 yrs. old
This book would be an excellent informative text that could be used to introduce a new unit on the human body. It gives a general overview of how the body works, but you would obviously need to utilize more specific texts when learning about a certain part of the body.

Ok overview of the human body. Not terribly in depth or detailed but fun.

A fun series to share with kids while also getting in some factual scientific facts. My 4th & 5th graders enjoyed this one a lot!

April 2017 - Ben has been more interested in how the body works, who eats what, bones, poop, and more. We didn't read all the sidebar information, but Ben was fascinated with the main story.

I bet this a field trip Arnold wish he had actual been on. Ms. Frizzle and the gang are at again. This time they take a field trip through the circulatory system. Fun, informative and entertaining, Joanna Cole has a way of writing that leaves children wanting more. I raised my kids on the magic school bus and I'm raising grandchildren on them now. My grandson and I are studying the human body for school and this has been a great starting point. I wish I had a teacher like Ms. Frizzle.
