Wounded hero
Fake relationship
Becoming a team
Oof...this final installment of Chestnut Springs really had my heart tense and hopeful. Bailey, the town pariah due solely to her family connections was dealt the worst of hands on a daily basis. Beau was the morose, wounded hero returned to this small town but totally adrift psychologically.
I could see their connection from afar, before it was solidified and these two were magic together. Bailey's straight up dialogue with zero filter was fun and Beau did not know how to deal at first. Beau's trauma was heavy at first and lighter once shared. It did seem a little easily wrapped up and discarded later in the story though.
There was a slow burn with these two and I got a bit frustrated with Beau on that (I think I was supposed to!). They sure had chemistry in the bucket load.
This guy went to bat for his partner, put her goals first and that made me putty.
Roll on the next series from this author.
