12/3/2021 - DNF @40%. The title & cover are deceptive - This isn’t a Christmas/holiday or small town book. It’s snowing & in December but minus one or two random mentions of something vaguely holiday-ish - there’s nothing to distinguish this from any other wintertime plot. And it’s not really a small town romance either. Other than someone saying, “small town”. There’s very few secondary characters (and besides Cassie those are underdeveloped) or shops or atmosphere or anything to suggest the charm that generally comes with books in this genre.

Other things didn’t quite work for me. I actually quit listening in the middle of the sex scene because I didn’t feel any chemistry between these two. Yes, they refer to each other as sexy/hot/good looking - but Reed hasn’t had anything nice to say about Erika (rightfully so as she’s awful toward him) before he decides to just get over how much he doesn’t like her & sleep with her.

Sometimes this kind of frenemies to lovers things works - but usually there’s like an “oh, that’s why they have their walls up” kind of moment. Nothing like that here… maybe it comes later. At this point I’m just bored.

I think this author’s writing style just isn’t for me.

Narration: This is my first experience with Melissa Moran. I liked her narration, but wasn’t “wow-ed” by it. It’s possible it might have been better as a dual with a male narrator or just the fact that I didn’t click with the author. Would be willing to check her out again.

3.5 Winter Wonderland Stars!!!
Not going to lie this book started off a little shaky for me, I wasn’t connecting to Erika off the bat. She came off a little conceited and over the top. How could someone be so disconnected to the outside world completely. Her people skills were way off; however, she did come out of her shell once she got more relaxed in town. I was really enjoying her interactions with the S&R team, she warmed up to them the fastest. I don’t know if it was because they were an emergency crew and she could relate to them. It was enjoyable to see how she grew as a character and learned from her mistakes and apologized for them. She is fallible and she didn’t believe that in the beginning. I liked that she tried to follow her romance for Reed and take it long distance of course there is always conflict with that because this is a romance novel.

Reed was an interesting character, he had buried feelings for Erika from when they were kids and didn’t realize it. He is a very responsible man, he is a man of many hats some people would say. One of the biggest being his job at the S&R unit, I loved how well versed in terminology this author is you can tell that she has researched well into this subject. He was very responsible for his team on the mountain every time they went out and you could tell it would weigh heavily on him if any little thing wasn’t going the right way. I enjoyed him trying to romance Erika and how he was trying to get it right but not be overbearing. It was so sweet how he was willing to work it out long distance.

I really enjoyed all the characters in this small town and am excited to go back and see what happens next. I felt the little bit of drama with Reed’s dad may have been a tad over the top and then it kind of didn’t even get brought up with Erika so I’m not sure why that was in there but it’s okay maybe it will be a plot point in a later book.

Thank you to Jennifer Snow and HQN books for a copy in lieu of my honest review.

Loved the story, but there was a certain character that I had a hard time with especially near the end of the book. For her dad to do a complete turnaround in such a short amount of time I found it hard to believe.

This first book in this series rom author, Jennifer Snow is off to a great start. I loved this book. Reed and Erika were great. Although, so was reed's sister, Cassie and a hidden star in Diva, the narcoleptic dog. I mean, what more could you ask for...a narcoleptic dog! Yes, please.

Erika started out with her hair up, expensive clothing, and a stuck up attitude but by the end of the story she had let her hair down, not afraid to get her hands dirty and found love in her heart. She and Reed were great together. Their first scene together was both hot and funny. Hot due to the make out session between these two and funny because after Erika took lead, she told Reed that he was "just ok". Luckily, things got better for Reed as he did win Erika's heart.

Maybe it was the cold Alaskan nights or the engaging characters but An Alaskan Christmas is a book that you will want to make sure is in your Christmas stocking this year! This book is sure to be on Santa's "good" list.

I expected this novel to be like a Hallmark movie but instead I got a x-rated one ;) I think the cover threw me off, which I love. It was a lot steamier then I expected.

It's a sweet and steamy romance and I enjoyed it. If you are looking for a great Christmas read, this is a good choice!
