The pivots between the different characters seemed really sharp and unexpected at first but the narrations coming together ultimately made so much sense and were well crafted.

It didn't go the way I wanted it to or expected it to, but I was still satisfied, so I guess it's cool. I wouldn't say that the blurb for this book is misleading, it's factually accurate, but when I reread it after I finished the book, I couldn't help but feel like it was a little... off. So let me just say that I would recommend diving into this story without any prior knowledge and seeing for yourself where it takes you.
The third part is definitely the strongest, but it's written in such a bizarre way that I'm not sure how I feel about it, even weeks after reading it. The hint of magical realism was a surprise, but overall a pleasant one, I think.

What a wonderful read about racism, immigration, and eugenics. As a second-gen Asian-American, there were a lot of points that really resonated with me and reflected my own experiences in this country.
However, I wish some of the side characters and subplots were fleshed out a bit more. Since there's a lot of timeskips, it feels like some conflicts weren't feel properly resolved or given the attention I think it needed, and there's a lot left unanswered. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it happened enough times (even to major plot points at times) that it affected my enjoyment a bit.
Overall, a fantastic read that will stick with me for a while!

I sometimes struggle to enjoy books with deeply flawed characters. I often try to find a piece of myself in them, and then when they turn out to be irrevocably human, I end up despising the bad parts. However, with this book, despite their many flaws, I found myself rooting for the characters and their relationships.
I only wish we had seen the reunion and makeup between Lily and Nick, I would have liked to see Nick's character grow instead of alluding to it.
This book is about the value of time, in all regards and how it is more precious than anything money can buy. I can relate to the desperation of wanted time to slow or stop so I don't miss anything. I love books like this that make me want to stop and appreciate my life in the present without overburdened myself with the desire for more time clouding my day to day life.
All yapping aside - this is a good book.

4.5 rounded up. I really enjoyed these characters who try so hard to make amends. So many parts made me cry but maybe it’s bc I’m first gen and relate so much these feelings
