Loved the writing of this book - the author captures the nuance of each characters inner thoughts so well and gets you hooked from the first page. I loved how the storyline crossed through multiple generations, although for being a historical fiction novel, I have other books that are higher on my list of faves. Lastly, I did find the ending a bit unsatisfying which partially explains the lower score + parts felt a bit too unfinished for me to rate it higher lol

3.5 rounded up. I liked the writing and was definitely invested in each of the character's stories and the complexity of their situation, but I do feel like it could have gone a bit deeper into certain themes. I love a family saga though so I was sat the entire time.
