I am struggling to find the words for this book. The whole thing felt like a fever dream but I kinda liked the story, even though a) I had absolutely no idea what was going on most of the time and b) the first and second halves of the story felt like two different books.
I was intrigued enough to want to know what happened and finish it but I can’t say I actually enjoyed reading it.
Weird one - worth a read coz it’s short!

A super interesting little book that predates some of my favorite Black Mirror moments by decades. It just took a bit too long to get to “the invention” and its revelations.

A nice little novella, ostensibly about the politics of Argentine and a man who has lost his homeland. This is a romantic novel by nature, the language reminded me of The Sorrows of Young Werther. I wonder why no one had recommended this to me earlier. The ending is so well written it is baffling how one can carry a narrative with such stark language and then pack such a powerful and emotional wallop in three succinct paragraphs.
