I enjoyed the storytelling and the premise, but I really wish the author had done more research for this book that involves so much science.  It's clear she doesn't even understand that lime is alkaline and should never be used in alkaline soil if you want roses to grow, let alone the basics of cloning science.  I'm willing to suspend disbelief for a good story, but the clear lack of research kept taking me out of the story.  It's a decent read if you don't know anything about science.

I feel a bit harsh giving this only 2 stars but I just couldn’t quite justify a 3 - there was something missing for me. It’s a really good story and I was interested in how it was all going to play out, but something about the delivery just felt laborious to read. I don’t know if it was too much science talk, too much reminiscing or what, but I found myself reading because I wanted to know what happened but not actually enjoying the reading process. There were also a few plot holes for me (particularly at the end but don’t want to give any spoilers). If there were half stars it would get a 2.5 because I was interested enough that I was desperate to know what happened, even if I was disappointed with the ending.

I really enjoyed the way this book was written. It deals with cloning, ethics surroundings the practice and domestic abuse very well. I enjoyed reading from Evelyn’s point of view, at times I really didn’t like her. But, I also understood that the way her mind worked was a result of being a victim of abuse by her father and later husband. It was nice seeing her progress and move towards change at the end of the book.

While an interesting enough story I feel like there was truly no "oomf" to it. No twist, no shocking reveals. The antagonist was a horrible person, and perhaps a caricature of someone on the spectrum? But it just came off as "asshole".
