In the context of the transition to capitalism Federici focuses on the devaluation of women, their labour, and bodies and their being reduced to their reproductive function and how this was expressed in the persecution of "dangerous" and independent women and the phenomenon of witch burnings. It is a convincing argument that Federici makes here and she skilfully connects developments in Europe with those happening across the Atlantic in the course of colonialisation. Overall a very thorough and convincing case that contributes to a better and less glorified understanding of the rise of capitalism - and sexism as well as racism.

J’ai énormément appris et me suis souvent demandée pourquoi cette facette de l’histoire ne nous avait jamais été enseignée…
one of the best reads of the year i think, the way capitalism, patriarchy and colonialism is linked and explained within this book just blew my mind. reading about the witch killings makes me cry everytime, i am going to have to read everything she’s written now aren’t i….

Five stars for the Book, Three stars for the Narration
I thought that this was a really interesting book overall and I would recommend this book as long as you listen to it at like 1.75 x speed as I did.
I did not enjoy the narrator & if it wasn't for my habit of listening to books at higher speed I couldn't listen to this audiobook without falling asleep.
