Moore's approach to advice is helping the reader develop their own ideas and deliver them with thoughtful consideration to technique and authenticity. Delightful and only just long enough to cover the big ideas, this slim volume is both practical and readable in itself.

Cool look into the creative process of comic book writing. Good advice of knowing your medium of storytelling and using its strengths to tell your story.

Moore provides comforting commentary and several of his works and the process involved in their creation for aspiring writers of comics or literature in general. There's a lot in here that reminds me of Stephen King's no bs take on the writing process and a lot that's completely different. Moore presents a structure and a process to begin before actually putting pen to paper (a process he urges the reader to ignore in his afterword, written 15 years later). I think though, for people just beginning the writing process, knowing that there's a process can be a comforting starting off point before learning the skills necessary to become more individualistic.

I wrote an entire column about how this book belongs on the Mt. Rushmore of How To Write books, even if you never write a comic.

This essay is pretty damn useful for non-comics writers, as well.

Well, obviously, quite unspeakably charming and insightful.

A dense booklet, perhaps a bit on the "ramblings and musings" side. In any case, here's someone with very strong opinions about comics, and not afraid to express them.
