Daisy turned away from Winterbourne, looking at him, smiling and fanning herself. "Good night," she said; "I hope you are disappointed, or disgusted, or something!"
He looked at her, taking the hand she offered him. "I am puzzled," he answered.
"Well, I hope it won't keep you awake!"

i love her

I'm hardly a fan of classic American Lit, but I really enjoyed it. The characters are hard to sympathize with. Winterbourne is frustrating in his love of Daisy, Daisy is frustrating on pricipal. James is a great atmospheric writer--the descriptions are lovely.

Um it was pretty short and kind of boring and I don't really understand what it was trying to do that said the ending shocked me and it was well written

“He was inclined to think Miss Daisy Miller was a flirt - a pretty American flirt. He had never, as yet, had any relations with young ladies of this category.”

I’m honestly at a loss as to what to think of this book. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t absolutely love it nor absolutely despise it by any means. It is exceedingly middle of the road for me and I honestly can’t explain why. I enjoyed the concept and the characters, but I was never intrigued enough to be gripped page to page, more I just wanted to see how the characters ended their individual stories.

Overall, decent, nothing spectacular, but nothing horrible, either.

2022:
Read for the second time for my Deep Maps: Spaces and Places seminar course.

2020:
Quick, easy read for my American Lit. course. I enjoyed the story of Daisy and Winterbourne and how society dictated their relationship. Honestly, I think it could have been a full length novel instead of a novella to add depth, but it did what it intended to under a hundred pages.
