Last year for the 23for23 challenge I read Vera Wong, so its only fitting that I read another one of her books for the last one of thediversereading challenge. And once again Sutanto takes us a captivating mystery with such wonderful characters.

This was such a fun romp! I love how Meddy has essentially four moms-with all her cousins being male and living elsewhere-so thus she gets all the attention, expectation, and matchmaking ambitions. Each auntie is great with their own personality that makes them so endearing. I was a little confused because the summary talks about four aunties-but then only three “aunties” were introduced, but then I realized the fourth one is her mom. That’s my bad, I forgot some cultures use “Aunties” to refer to an older woman. Love the kind of family where they are at each other’s throats most of the time, but will help each other out-especially in this crazy situation.

Meddy herself is such a fun and sweet character. At times the voice of reason for her crazy family, at other times panicking at how calm the rest of them are-especially when it comes to the accidental murder. She wants to make all of her family proud-especially since she’s the only kid in the picture-but also wants some independence to try their own things. Her slowly growing to step out is so sweet.

The mystery part was interesting too! At first it appears to be like a Columbo-like case, where we watch a murder happen and see how the murderer tries to get away with it. Yet there’s a great twist to this case involving the victim’s future plans...its a delight so go out and read it for yourself because it’s so tempting to talk more about it but I don’t want to spoil..

The rest of the cast is great too-ah all the wedding drama going on is so good! Honestly, I’d read stories of the Chans dealing with all the Groomzillas, no murders involved.

Overall, I’m glad I finally got to read more of Sutanto’s work and I’m eager to read the rest!

I didn’t fully read the synopsis when I started this. I thought, I know what this is about, it’s a cheesy romance. Imagine my surprise when there was a dead body. Then the body stayed dead and people in the book didn’t seem that traumatized by it! Granted the person was up to no good, but they easily got away with murder. Overall, it was a fine read. The dynamic between the women in the family was funny at times. I do wish there was more of the romance flushed out.

Oh. My. God.

It starts off slow and you don't really feel like it's going to go far. But it has so many twists. It's also hilarious because of siblings rivalry and poor understanding of English from the aunties. It is worth getting past the first 40 pages because the rest of the book is golden. Pure comedy and back and forth of a murder and a wedding.
