Wasn't what I had expected. Felt like a very high overview of characters that could have been more deeply explored. Read a little like a teenage diary, I kept waiting for something heartstopping to happen and it never did. Prefer the origina dracula story

Really really loved this take on vampiric lore!! Grotesque and gothic and lovely storytelling.

I can’t help but feel this book is a marriage of Dracula & the interview with a vampire/the vampire Lestat. I wasn’t a fan of Dracula the book & we never got to know him to really pin him down besides the unclean villain. This book maintains that albeit with the Louis & Claudia’s quiet resentment exalted in Constanta- whom I parallel to Dracula’s Lucy by vague visual description. Similarly, Alexi parallels Lestat, beautiful & needing to be the center of attention.
The book had a holes to me due to Constanta’s framing of the story - everything was dark & foreshadowed so when actual event occurred to me it was anticlimactic. Although I suppose it’s from the Constanta’s trauma based perspective. I enjoyed it, however I couldn’t relate to Constanta or her find her choices realistic so the story felt flat. Sorry, I just can’t imagine being on the brink of death after being assaulted & begging a stranger to help or save me - I don’t that man- I can’t trust that man.
