Each page has a poem on a different topic related to bees, as well as a small paragraph with more information on the topic. The illustrations are bright and colorful and fun to look at. I used this for my preschool lesson on bees- it was maybe a little bit over their heads, so I would suggest it more for Kinder and up.

this was not the book of poetry for me, but it's good to know about Florian. The man is prolific with this stuff!

Florian does a great job compiling poems that are about the different roles bees have in their community as well as some poems that talk about beekeepers and how many bee communities have disappeared recently. Each poem has corresponding facts that give additional information about the poem.

Douglas Florian presents a collection of poems and paintings all about bees. Facts accompany each poem, taking us through the different roles of bees (drones, workers, queen, etc.), bee body parts, what bees do, and more. Not my favorite of his collections, but pair it with Loree Griffin Burns's THE HIVE DETECTIVES or THE BUZZ ON BEES by Shelley Rotner to add some wordplay to a classroom unit on bees.

This is a fun and informational poetry book about bees. The painting illustrations make this book very fun and lighthearted.

Part poetry, part informational text, renowned poet Florian takes readers into the inner-workings of the beehive. Really excellent pairing of poems with additional expository text plus more information in the back. Florian ends the book with a public-service message about why we should be concerned about the decline of the honeybee population.
