Following on from reading the first Inspector Morse book I did prefer this one. A nice whodunnit with twists and turns. I only wish that in addition to the map at the front of the book we also had a character list as it was hard to keep track of all the tourist's names especially when they were only briefly mentioned but then a lot later get brought up again

One of the best Morse novels I've read. Fantastic plot with red herrings, twists and turns aplenty, as well as clues that I missed (and really feel I should have picked up on). A really clever plot (if slightly implausible given the collaboration required).
I do wish Dexter wouldn't have this thing about women all lusting after Morse. It's rather implausible and I do wonder if he regards himself as Morse and it's all rather wishful thinking....
He also loves to drop in unusual words to demonstrate the depth (breadth?) of his vocabulary. He shouldn't. It's unnecessary.
Those two issues aside, it's a very gripping read

I’m not so crazy about Colin Dexter or Morse, both of whom carry the baggage of misogyny and homophobia. However, Frederick Davidson is one of the greatest narrators ever, so he makes it bearable.

An actually quite convoluted Morse, whose alcohol capacity never ceases to amaze. A good read for a plane.
