If you have not read this book than you need to. Seriously, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! I'm joking of course but in all seriousness I really enjoyed and loved this book. We're constantly given heroines, especially in YA contemporary romance, who are coiffed as if they leapt off of the cover of Teen Vogue. So it was refreshing to be inside the wonderful, fangirly, geeked out mind of Sally. I felt so kindred with her as she quoted Star Wars as gospel and felt as though she always stuck out. Her relationships are so genuine, specifically her friendship with Becks. I loved this book and felt like it had been written with me in mind. Go read this now!

My rating started with 4 starts because it was very entertaining and cute. But I retracted a star for the constant "I'M nOt lIKe oThEr gIrls", because yeah being quirky is cute and "dork" is literally in the title, but why does she constantly feel the need to put other girls down? She acts like not putting on makeup is a (positive) personality trait lol.
(And she acts like liking Harry Potter and star trek makes her "such a dork" but those are one of the most popular franchises for a reason. If the author really wanted to make her a nerd or whatever, at least try harder)
That also correlates with the ridiculously over the top mean girls. Together with the CONSTANT slut-shaming made me retract another star.
Her love interest is described multiple times as a "player" with a love for girls, while those girls who love him are "sluts", "sleezies" and "skanks". Aha SurE, lovE that -_-.
The "mean girl" trope has been over-done since the beginning of time. Maybe you disagree for holding it up to 2020 standards but it isn't like this wasn't bad 4 years ago. I can overlook the cliches but not the harmful tropes.

Not in this household.

I knew they would end up together within 20 pages but I don't mind predictability with this type of book. I really did not like Hooker though. This is the main character's "best friend" and she spends the entire book doubting Sally and pushing her into things she has REPEATEDLY said she doesn't want or like. Other than that it was cute. I even ended up liking Ash.

Best friends turned lovers is my most favorite trope. Ever. Of all time. So this book was perfect for me. The only two things I wish were better are the ending (it seemed very rushed and was over in like, 2 pages... there could have been more there), and it should have been dual POV. Simply because dual POV is always better, and I'm a sucker for hearing the male's thoughts in relationships. ><
Spoiler I was also waiting for everyone to find out that the relationship was fake at first, but they never revealed it..?? What, they never would have told anybody? Also, HATE the best friend and mom. If I were her, I would have found a new best friend long ago, lol.
All in all, a great book. Solid 4 3/4 stars. ^_^

I’m torn between 3 and 4 stars for this book, so we’ll settle on 3.5. It was quick, easy read (finished it in one night after work) with loveable characters, namely Becks, and a handful of laugh out loud moments. One little thing that really got on my nerves however was the texting style, teenagers don’t text using slang like “2NITE” and “BrkUp” anymore (also did not appreciate the Slytherin-bashing).
In the end though, I’m just a real sucker for the fake-boyfriend trope. Despite a few small issues with the book, I still wish it had of been longer, the ending felt rushed and left me unsatisfied..

This book was so perfect!

So I got this book from a second-hand bookstore and not gonna lie I didn't expect it was this good. I read this back in November 2021 and have only written a review for it now.

This book follows Sally Spitz a girl who is very geeky about Harry Potter and Star Wars. You could also call her a nerd, I suppose. Her mother and a best friend named Hooker keep setting her up with boys now and then, but they all turn out to be a bunch of flops. So she then goes to school and meets up with her boy best friend in school who is also a football player. Sally's feelings for him resurface although she treats her like how she always does, which is in a playful normal manner. But soon enough, there's also a problem that surfaces so this best friend asks for a favor and it was for her to date him.

Okay so please do not follow my short introduction to the book. It's been months since I read it and I only remembered a few parts, but I know I loved this book a lot so I hope everyone enjoys it as well. <3

This was a really cute, quick read that made me laugh out loud. It was sweet, and gave me the feels. I would definitely recommend it, and I would be interested to read more by this author.
