I think this might’ve been an amazing incredible story if not for the at it was written. An in-between of poetry and prose, it was poetic in some areas (most) then suddenly became prose. And there were ENTIRE pages of just rain sounds. “Oip. Oip. Oip.” After a while, it became slightly annoying. Overall? Okay book. Characters were cute. (Not the dad…but others) Storyline itself was not too fun and it jumped ahead in time near the end. For almost half of the book it is small little kid. Then suddenly he’s 14 and working and then he’s going to university and changing his name?!?! Hello? Kinda confusing.

Carino ma non eccezionale, c'era qualcosa che dall'inizio alla fine non è riuscito a convincermi fino in fondo. Ma mi è piaciuto molto l'uso delle immagini ad ampliamento del testo.

A great story for children about the young life of Pablo Neruda. The imagery, style, poetry and use of onomatopoeia were great.

Excellent read! It looks like a book for a gradeschooler but for adults it's really just a short story. You can definitely finish it in a day :-) Such a simple story but with such profound effect especially if you can relate Neftali, a dreamer, or as his father often called him a day-dreamer. You see Neftali a boy from Chile grow up from just day-dreaming and being absentminded but in the end he's the strongest and most aware among all the characters about the world.

The Dreamer, you'll never go wrong in reading this classic.

A fictionalized account of Pablo Neruda's bleak Chilean childhood. Neruda overcomes a mean, dictatorial father to become a famous poet who advocates for native people. A nice idea, nicely written, with nice illustrations, but I thought the story fell kind of flat. I appreciated it, but I didn't love it.
