It was like reading a history textbook. Some stories were nice, others were just too basic, with no bookish charm....

Secondo me no.

This is a creation  history. Readers don’t expect a story.

Interesting read, some of it especially the first half was quite confusing and almost like reading an icelandic saga, but then he was probably inspired by that anyway. So the first part was quite confusing, but when i got to Beren and Luthien it became much more engaging as that story and the rest of the book is more stroybased in a way, at least it was easier to follow the narrative and i liked those stories, exept for that one thing in the children of hurin story. but overall interesting read and even if i did not get everything, there was quite a lot i did not understand or catch, i still enjoyed it, it gave a theme to the mythology and the histroy. Though, I think you have to be really invested and you have to sit with a pen and paper beside you to understand everything.
