Bardugo is a brilliant writer. I really love what she’s done with the Yale lore and I admire her breadth of knowledge when it comes to all these deeply academic/literary things, from her characters quoting poets to quoting scripture. I also admire her ability to weave narratives through multiple timelines — something I recall her doing more in the first book.
HELL BENT takes these tragic backstories of these multifaceted and flawed characters and makes my chest tight as she shows us their deepest tragedy in flashback. That might have been my favorite part of the novel.
There’s so much more to explore within the universe so I’m ready for whichever direction Bardugo takes us in.
I will say! I wouldn’t have minded MORE on the Darlington/Alex romance front. Hoping there’s more to come in the next book.
