This was a pleasant read. The writing reminded me a little of Tessa Dare’s - bingeable and funny! (and maybe a little silly, but in an entertaining way!) Definitely what I needed after dnfing 4 books in a row!

Charlotte is an absolutely adorable and endearing wallflower. She is truly kind, compassionate, and wanting of a friendship between herself and Rothbury. Watching Rothbury try to hide his ever-growing feelings for Charlotte is absolutely precious. The scenes that have the couple meeting Rothbury's French grandmother are among my favorite in the book. She speaks only in French about how Rothbury needs to marry Charlotte and get her pregnant. Rothbury believes that Charlotte cannot understand French (she really can) and has conversations about her with his grandmother. It leads to some humorous reactions on Charlotte's part as she tries to keep a straight face.
Final Thoughts: This is one you want to read.

I loved that they were friends first. I would have expected more yearning from Rothbury's POV

that was sooo cute. So refreshing to see the Hero, the Rake, helplessly in love with the Heroine. and for so long!
liked it better than the Bride Hunt ball.

Charlotte and Rothbury are both kind of willfully dumb characters which got on my nerves just the right amount to prevent me from DNFing this book, but it was close. It probably felt like more of a let down than it actually was because book 1 is a new fave now.
Charlotte is a wallflower that was burned pretty badly in the first book and Rothbury is the one who saved her from total humiliation(he's been secretly in love with her for years). They become friends and Charlotte thinks she's helping him try to land her neighbor when he is just spending time with her because he will take what he can get but has trained for years not to show emotion and doesn't know what to do with them anymore, besides he still thinks she's in love with his friend.
This whole experience was pretty meh, but the last line made it worth the effort because I lol'd.
