  • Ms. Lu Done did it again
  • This book was nothing short of magnificent
  • Talin is an angel. Her vulnerability as well as strengths were showcased beautifully
  • The book centers around Talin but Lu writes in a way that makes Talin’s  story one of millions
  • The world building was excellently done. Not too simple it lack creativity and not too complex it evaporates brain cells
  • The dystopian world and theme isn’t original—there are Many out there like this—but Lu spins it beautifully
  • The battle scenes were a little lack luster but then again I don’t know the first thing about fighting so—
  • Not heavily romancy and for once I really like that
  • Some characters had more backbone than others(maybe there’s a reason)
  • The themes of bravery, loyalty, strength, and vulnerability—chefs kiss
  • I don’t think Mara is dead yet

While this is a YA novel - full of YA tropes that make adult me roll my eyes and inner teen me squeal - it was honestly a lovely read. It addresses themes of colonialism, disability, cultural tension, staying true to one’s self, and deep loyalty rooted in love.

This was the first book I have read... well listened to by this author and I definitely see why people rave about her. This book makes me want to read more of her books. I did meet her at a book signing before but I just didn't get a chance to read one of her books before I went. I received the chapter sampler from Netgalley but just recently got the audiobook from the Libro FM ALC program! So thank you to the publisher, Libro FM and Netgalley.

Shkyhunter give me A Quiet Place vibes with creatures. It is action packed
Beginning was overwhelming with amount of exposition and characters but still interesting abd entertaining.

They were carrying like 6 daggers, 2 blades, like 2 guns?? Ammo, and a bow an arrow on themselves. And they're supposed to move quietly on top of that??? O just couldn't get over it.
