Begins with the well-known clapping game, extends the story with a wild adventure. Fun, colorful illustrations. Endpapers include instructions on how to play this clapping game.

Brief summary
A sing-song story about a girl and an elephant
Annotation
This is a classic jumprope song as well. Students like the singing and it is easy for them to repeat once they hear the pattern. Mary and the elephant enjoy their time together jumping fences, drinking tea and being friends. The Illustrations tell the story as well, with a little turn on the elephants keeper that is very cute.
Age appropriateness
This is great for 0-5 years old.
Connection to six early literacy skills this would be a great example of phonological awareness because of the repetition of words.
Five practices best utilized as a song. It is once that is easy to memorize and can provide a child with a fun and silly song to sing.
Opinion - I like this song, most time you don't hear every stanza sung, but it is a good story arc and the pictures are entertaining and tell their own story.

Berry loved this one! I don't think I ever knew all of the words as a kid so it's been a learning experience for me, too.

Another one that I thought was blah but he liked. Informative, though: I never knew what happened in the rhyme after the buttons. Maybe I'll teach him the hand-clap thing next time and that will help me develop a greater appreciation for this book?
