The story of the Champawat tiger can be summed up in a 30 minute YouTube video and this books doesn’t really add any new information specifically about the tiger hunt. It fills the rest of the runtime (I listened to the audiobook) with a very brief history of the area, a brief description of tiger’s abilities and biology, a brief history of Jim Corbett, and a brief description of a Indian cultural beliefs about tigers. All of which are not in depth enough for me to find necessary when I’m looking for a book about hunting a specific tiger. I find all the extra topics confusing when they are spliced randomly without a good through line. If events were told chronologically with the background information in chapters following an introduction I’d find the addition of those topics more tolerable. In the end it’s a fine book but nothing special, pretty mid.

I only know a slight bit of information about the Champawat Tiger. Therefore, I found this book to be very interesting to learn about animals from other countries. To be honest, when I think of "deadly" animals; the Champawat Tiger is not one that makes the top ten list. However, after reading this book it is right up in the top animals of the world. This is no joke as the Champawat Tiger held four hundred and thirty six kills before Jim Corbett killed him. Although, reading this book, I can imagine in those moments when Jim killed the Champawat Tiger that it was with some remorse and respect for the beast.

Mr. Huckelbridge writes as a good storyteller. He provided plenty of details without allowing the book to be bogged down with details. Also, it felt as if I was transported back in time and stepped into Jim's shoes as he hunted the Champawat Tiger. Anyone who likes to read nonfiction books, should pick up a copy of this book.

This book delves into the surrounding context of the Champawat tiger which I found very interesting. I feel like a learned a lot of new (to me) information about Nepal and India during the 1800’s.

It does sound weird that if someone loves tigers or want to learn about tigers, the first book I would suggest is the one where a tiger is shown as a villain (which, in this story, she was).

It has almost everything about flora and fauna of Terai (an area of marshy jungle near the Himalayan foothills). Dane Huckelbridge has worked really hard for the greatest story of what a man-wild conflict can do.

This books isn't just a story of a hunter and its prey. It is a collection of geographical aspects of the Himalayas and Terai, Social aspects of people living there, Details of origin of Panthera Tigris Tigris and how its course of life evolved from time to time, Explanation of what decades of mismanagement of environment and human interference in nature can bring with introduction of a great hunter-turned-conservator of tigers : Jim Corbett.

Should be read 'one chapter at a time' approach because the way topics shift from one chapter to another can make it less interesting. Dane has a great way with words where he can build tension or educate you like a child but the flow of story here can be found little weird.
