The novella that dominates this collection lacks a certain cathartic element desperately needed to rectify the conflict presented. Multiple narrators complicate the tale, making this work strangely unfamiliar in Marquez's typical terrain. Yet the short stories, namely "The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World," fill the reader with the mysterious sense of what it is to be human.

This is the book that brings us Macondo for the first time (for the ones that are not familiar is where 100 years of solitude takes place). It was not one of my favorites by Garcia Marquez, however is still a good read (specially if you love 100 years of solitude). This is also, from the ones that I read, the only that has three different narrators, which ends up being really interesting.
