Pretty innocuous and light but full of good reminders about the space and energy between you and your romantic partner.

Really enjoyed the audio book version, read by Rob Bell and his wife Kristen. It's not super ground breaking but I thought it was interesting to hear their perspective on the dynamics of marriage. The concept of zimzum and respecting the space between you and your partner as you both grow and learn was helpful to me!

Short Review: The Zimzum of Love: A New Way of Understanding Marriage by Rob and Kristen Bell - it seems most of the negative reviews are about not liking Rob Bell instead of not liking the book. The book is a helpful, short, encouraging book on marriage that is exclusive, holy, and dynamic. I think it is too expensive right now, but that the content is good and it is the right length for small group discussions.

(Note: The kindle version at least keeps going on sale for around $4. At that price it is worth picking up.)

A worthwhile listen via audiobook. It's only about 2 hours long, so if you think of it like an extended podcast on marriage, it's worth a read/listen. Definitely not the most original or compelling marriage book out there but I think the Bells offer some helpful insights that may resonate with some couples.

Again, not a book I would probably read, but honestly I loved listening to the back and forth between Rob and Kristen

Like many of the other readers of this book, I didn't find any of Bell's points profound. He mostly fashioned ideas we all already know about marriage into five categories complete with a title that didn't really encompass the rest of the book. An easy read but it took forever to get through due to being a bore.

It's not a bad book; it's just also not really what it advertises to be either. Nothing in here is really new or profound and not necessarily exclusively about married couples. The behavior patterns and mindsets they talk about are basically respecting another person for who they are and creating space for them to be themselves with you. I'd say that's true of any kind of healthy relationship. I like a lot of what Rob Bell has to say but sometimes it concerns me with how he seems to need to take the "but this is new and sexy" angle vs this isn't new but it's something we need to be reminded of and this is what helps me; also his penchant for unnecessarily vague and flowery language...

"How is the space between us?"
A good questions to ask in all close relationships in my opinion, so some parts of this book are useful even if you aren't married. I enjoy Rob Bell and appreciate his "new age" thoughts.

This was a very shallow book. It had an interesting premise on the space we make for each other in marriage. But there was a lack of depth in that exploration.
