Its hard for me to dnf a book I paid for, but time of death is 56%. And it took DAYS for me to get to that 56%. It had some great moments that could have turned the spirit of the book around but no, that did not happen.

Its like being read a joyless manual of bitterness and bad decisions for werewolves. Clay was the only good thing about this story. I need to read something uplifting so I am moving on!

Spoiler highlights- Potential (wasted):
“What the hell do you want?” I said.
His smile turned to a grin, white teeth flashing. “You. What else?”
“Where? Right here? On the floor?”
“Nah. Not that. Not yet. Just the same old thing I always want. You. Here. For good.”
I wished he’d stuck with my interpretation.
He caught my eye. “I’m glad you’re home, darling. I missed you.”
I nearly tripped over my feet running from the room.
-------------
My gaze swept over his face, taking in the line of his jaw, the tendons on his neck, the dark blond shadow on his chin, and the curve of his lips. Heat started in the pit of my stomach and radiated down.
He swiveled back to face me. His pupils were dilated and I could smell his excitement. He gave a hoarse chuckle, leaned toward me, and whispered those three magical little words. “Time to hunt.”
------------
Clay sat down next to my head and handed me a drink. I took a sip. Rum and Coke.
He gulped his own, then leaned over me. “Perfect night, wasn’t it?”
“It could have been.” I smiled up at him. “But you were there.”
“Which means it was only the beginning of a perfect night.”
-----------
When it was over we collapsed on the grass, panting as if we’d run a marathon. We lay there still entwined around each other. Clay buried his face in my hair, told me that he loved me, and nodded off. I lay in a drowsy haze.
Finally I turned my head and looked down at him. My demon lover. Eleven years ago, I’d given him everything. But it hadn’t been enough. “You bit me,” I whispered.
(OH MY GOD ELENA, its been years let it go and find happiness for once!)
----------
Mending fences with Clay would mean surrender. It would mean he’d won, that biting me had been worth the trouble. He’d have his mate, the life partner of his choice, the realization of his own domestic dreams.
-----------
If I dwelled on my anger with Clay every second I was forced to spend in his company, I’d have turned into a bitter, waspish harpy long ago. Of course, some might argue that I’d crossed that threshold years ago, but that wasn’t the point.

YES you crossed that point and do not deserve the precious Clay baby.

I watched the series first and was really disappointed when it was cancelled so I bought the books to read.

It was good but MY GOD some of the chapters just draaaaaaaaag nothing really happened, she spent the whole book telling you how much she hated clay but then spent the whole time boinking him because she forgot about her boyfriend.

I’ll read the next one but that’s only because I can’t drop something once I’ve started

wait! Quick mini rant about ratings:

Before you start to think that's a low rating I find myself hating the star ratings anyway. I'm not great at it. A five star books needs to be a favorite I would read over and over and love it forever and a 4 star should be up there with giving me all the feelings.

Unless I state I hate it and you would know if I did then it's fine. I don't think there's anything wrong with saying something didn't waste my time.

It's about being entertained. Or learning something. It's stepping outside your body and letting your mind focus on something outside of yourself. Books are these wonderful gifts that warm my heart. Seriously. They are incredible and humbling and exciting. They are other people's thoughts and ideas put to paper. They are words and opinions and imagery so outside of you, yet when you read it then it becomes yours and you decide what you want to do with it. It's magic.

Ok ok. End of rant and word appreciation.

Did I love it ? No.

Did I think this was terrible and
Would never recommend it to anyone? no. Of course I would.

Everyone's taste are different. We all have things that check our boxes and things that annoy us to no end.

This series has potential to be great.

I liked it.

The beginning was a bit slow, and I wasn't sure if I could get into it. The more time I spent on it the more I liked it.

I like werewolves.

Really any kind of shifter trope I like. They were my favorite folk lore growing up besides scary stories of changlings and fey. And I usually like them in romance novels.

So I find a book and the main character is a badass female werewolf? Neat.

Then you find out she's the only one ever? Super neat.

So I give it a try

I liked the pack interactions which I felt like they generally cared for each other . I liked that they had their own rules or code on how they hunt and work.

I even liked the love story with an established relationship. ( which I normally don't like because I like beginnings. Sue me ) it's hard to write a relationship that's already had history before we start our story because it's hard to write that kind of familiarity and it not feel forced. I want to believe. That's why love at first sight/ Insta-love bothers me so much. Build up is a good thing. But I think the author did a good job. I felt like it was complicated, that you didn't know if they were going to workout because it didn't before. It was interesting.

I started it as a audiobook but switched to physical copy soon after because I couldn't get into the narration. It did feel like I was being told a story instead of being shown if that makes sense. Show me don't tell me what's happening. I'm smart (kinda) I can figure it out.

I liked the characters enough where when they were idiots I could overlook it. The main character (Elena) was annoying with her being stubborn and downright prideful at times but she should have flaws. I don't want my main character to be a Mary Sue.
The main guy (clay) had faults and I they worked well together. And the "love triangle" wasn't nearly as annoying as I thought it would be. I did feel like Phillip wasn't needed except for a reason for Elena to feel tied to the human world. And that wasn't fair to him. I don't like cheating and it annoyed me. Like put on your big girl pants and either brake up with him or keep it in your pants.

Would I read it again ? Probably not.

But I am going to continue the series even if I don't know when I'll pickup the next book. I think I read its actually finished to so I don't have to wait for an ending.

I think it's worth a read if you can look past some of the negatives I've brought up and the tropes because of course they use some.

Thanks for reading
SJ

At first, the premise seemed kind of interesting with a somewhat intriguing plot and a couple of exciting character dynamics, but in the end I just wasn’t impressed. Nothing really led anywhere, and I couldn’t find it in me to care about any of it. Everything quickly became boring as well as repetitive, and I wasn’t a fan of the writing style either.

Also, I didn’t connect with the main characters at all as I found her to be unnecessarily combative, whiny and just overall a pretty terrible person. I genuinely couldn’t stand her.
The romance was also plenty awful; they had no chemistry whatsoever and all they did was fight or fuck. It was insanely shallow and extremely annoying.

Lastly, when it comes to the actual story, I struggled to root for “The Pack” since the way they treated “mutts” just seemed completely wrong. They treated them like second rate citizens for nothing more than the place they were born. It was discrimination in the highest degree. Thus, I honestly felt like a revolution against The Pack was more than justified, so I couldn’t find it in me to hope for The Pack’s victory. That definitely wasn’t my idea of a happy ending.

I actually got around to reading this when I did a "blind" any book on the Kindle selection and basically opened it up and started reading. You know you have those books that have been gathering dust and passed over for the newest selections, those books you know are popular but haven't gotten around to reading? This is like that. Open it and just start reading.

Paranormal "Wolves and Shifters" pretty straight forward. The heroine is called back home to help with an emergency situation after leaving the pack to live in the city and "play human". After telling her live in, almost fiance that she is leaving to be with a sick family member, she drags her feet back home and tries to say that 'its' only temporary", meanwhile her wolf's chosen mate that she both hates and loves in turns is doing his best to change her mind. He can't understand why she wants to live in the city and hide the fact that she is a wolf. She tries to rationalize her decision but finds that it gets harder everyday hiding her true nature.
