The crime aspects and the atmosphere of this was really good and gripping. The dialogue and the characterization, not so much. There was a lot of telling instead of showing when it come to the characters and their relationship, and lots of place where the dialogue would abruptly stop and they would just sum up what was said. I still enjoy it because the crime elements were well done and it was a thrilling mystery, but outside of that it was a little lacking. Still would recommend though if you like crime novels without much depth beyond the crime itself.

Loved this book, but I think it was about 100 pages too long.

I would give this book a 4.5/5 stars. There were so many twists and turns at the end, but I started to guess towards the middle who it might be. But it made no sense until the end. Would have liked more character development, but the characters themselves are interesting.

Similar in feel to the Stieg Larson "Girl Who.." series. (Probably has to do with the location.)

The descriptions of the tortures committed by the Chestnut Man got to the edge of how much I can stomach. Fortunately, there weren't many of them.
