This is one of my favorite Sandman trade paperbacks, and definitely my favorite of the odds and ends collections. "August," "The Song of Orpheus," and "Three Septembers and a January" are all wonderful, but "Ramadan" is special.
3,5*
This is my least favorite volume so far. I liked some of the stories significantly more than others.

This volume contains one of my favorite (though most emo) Greek myths.
This goes back to more standalone stories.
Which means we're going to having varying quality as you read through the book.
There's some great ones in here like Fear of Falling, which is a nice short story about someone not wanting to fail, but too scared of trying. I liked this one a lot. August is great tale of Ceaser's nephew, and a dark past, but we all knew this was coming. I also really enjoyed the main tale here of The Song of Orpheus which is probably the highlight to see Dream's son and his downfall. You know it's going to be sad but I wasn't prepared for how sad.
There's a few stories that miss the mark for me. especially the last one. Not a fan of the story, the structure, or the art. Kind of downer for me overall. I also didn't love the Marco Polo story.
But overall it had a lot more good than bad, and that's what I've come to expect of Sandman. A 4 out of 5.

What I remember about reading it as kid - I loved it. I remember thinking “Ramadan” was the most beautifully illustrated story I had ever seen in comics. I remember that at this point, I was feverishly buying every snippet of the Sandman world I could… the spin offs and special miniseries and Vertigo anthologies.
What I think about the collection now - I love it. “Ramadan” is one of the most beautifully illustrated stories I’ve ever seen in comics. I love being reminded of the passion I had for the series as a youth. I love being able to feel passionate about it in a new way as an adult.
Phenomenal stuff, these stories.

What an excellent volume of the Sandman. I have a real love for the volumes of the Sandman that are full of one-offs; there's something in reading those volumes, just little collections of short stories, that makes me so deeply happy. The ones in here are just extremely satisfying; they're whimsical, moving, and leave you thinking.
This set of stories are unrelated individual stories. Unfortunately, it doesn't move forward the general story of the series. Some of the art was pretty interesting, and some of the stories were clever, but nothing too exception. Hopefully, the next volume has a long term story arc.
The more of these I read the better they get. Impressive.
