I'm glad that this book is more like book 1 rather than book 2 of the trilogy.

The writing is really good and while quite a few questions are left unanswered, I didn't mind that, because the nature of mystery of Area X and the limitations of humans seem to be such that understanding everything involved may not really be possible.

This series has been pleasantly frustrating to read lol. This one’s probably my least favorite of the series, but that isn’t saying much because it’s still great.

I just honestly don't care... I liked the first book as a standalone. Book two was just okay and this book I got over 200 pages in and still didn't care. I think I was invested in the characters and the team from the first book, not the environment they were in and then all the books after have just been research on the environment. I loved Saul's chapters and enjoyed gloria/crynthia/the directors chapters as well but the team in the southern reach was just boring and confusing.

Definitely the worst of the trilogy. They all kind of went downhill from the start. First book was excellent. Second was really good and the third was just okay.

I hate giving this book such a low rating because I really enjoyed and was engrossed in the series, but I'm confused. I read three books and don't feel I'm anywhere closer to solving the mystery of Area X than I was when I started reading the first book. It's ultimately unsatisfying to have read the whole trilogy and still be so confused.
