Enjoyable read and insight into the land of Elyon.

3.5 stars.
This was my least favorite book in the series, but I still liked it. These books were a huge part of my childhood, and I'm glad that he added a prequel. I definitely enjoyed learning more about Thomas Warvold. This is a great book to read if you've already read the rest of the Land of Elyon books, which I'd definitely recommend.

I read this to my 7 yo daughter. She loved it! She was captivated by the adventure from the beginning. I thought the writing was exceptional and the story highly entertaining as well as unique. We're looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I liked how this book had two different timelines and that the chapter titles went along with the timelines. It made it easier to read, even when it’s a reread. I also liked how this book was a bit of a pause on Alexa’s story and we learned more about the past.
This book is perfect for preteens to read, especially those who dream of going on adventures. It’s amazing reading as an adult, how two young children can deal with what Thomas and Roland went through and where and how they travelled on their adventure. I just kept thinking about how they were too young to be doing many of the dangerous things they got up to.
The book ended with a “to be continued…”, so I’m excited to read the final book of the series!

Not my favorite one. I wish I had read it before stargazer. Stargazer was amazing and the best one to end the series with. My students all agreed.

I read this book in 4th or 5th grade AFTER the rest of the Land of Elyon. I thought it made sense then but I would advise reading at least the first book so you understand the characters. I loved this series and hope to reread it!

This is my second time reading this book, the first being when I was in fourth grade and read this one out of all the books first (chronologically its first but it wasn't published first). I immediately loved it and wanted to read all the others.

Obviously some of the magic was lost through time and age growth, but the feeling of entering a magic world all mine own was the same. I was overcome with a sort of melancholy sensation: not only for the tone of the story but for what I will never have again as a reading experience as a 9 year old.
