This was a DEAR book for me- Drop Everything And Read. I was so excited for this book; it was a fun read. It follows the episodes in the show but with a touch more insight here and there are loads of 'inserts' (like flyers, school letters, etc) inserted in the diary, making it really three-dimensional.
I felt embarrassed walking through the library with this under my arm. Normally the public library is a pretty safe space unimpeded by Queens students, but today there was loads of them with their laptops out and thick important-looking books. Did make me a touch self-conscious, can't lie. Maybe I've healed my inner teenager enough and it's time to work on being an outer adult. But I loved this book so much.

I’d seen Derry Girls on Netflix shortly after it arrived, but I didn’t check it out right away because… I couldn’t tell you why. Anyway, one of my favorite podcasts, Learning the Tropes (they’re awesome, check them out), does this thing where they have something they’re swooning over at the end of each book episode and one of the hosts, whose name is Erin, ironically enough, swooned about Derry Girls one time. She said it was very funny and that she just absolutely loved it, so I decided to check it out and I’m so glad that I did! I love the show so much and when I was looking through Great books on Kindle so I could complete the Great on Kindle challenge, I saw Lisa McGee’s Erin’s Diary and that was that. I immediately one-clicked and now after having read it, it was for sure the right choice because I loved reading it so much!
It was so fun reading through Erin’s diary entries and getting a little bit of the same feel through reading this book that I got watching the show. It was cool getting to read about events that happened in the show and also seeing things that didn’t happen in the show or at least maybe there’s some stuff I just forgot — who knows with this mind? Anyway, I had a wonderful time with Erin and all these characters again. It made me laugh and smile and I wholeheartedly recommend getting this if you’re a fan of the show. Also too if you’re thinking about watching the show, but are on the fence, definitely watch the show, but Erin’s Diary will give you a taste of what it’s like so you can see if you’ll like it without watching (though you should absolutely watch it no matter what!). So I loved Erin’s Diary and I can’t wait to see what else Lisa McGee does in the future!
