I don't know that I love the premise. I recognize that it is the point, but I don't like jumping into a story at the end. I feel like there's less space to actually get to know the characters, especially when the end is a break-up. I feel like you can't know them as individuals, you only know them within the relationship.
However, despite not loving the premise (it is intriguing and refreshing nonetheless), I did like the writing. It made me cry, but not like sobbing. Just teary eyed. Maybe a single tear fell. I liked the second prologue thing. It's clever and it gives me hope.
The characters really are loveable, and I was rooting for them the whole time. I don't know if this is one that will stick with me, but I liked it.

High school romances aren't easy. And for college bound teens, Aidan and Clare, there is a big decision to make. Do they stay as a couple and figure out how to make their long distance relationship over 3000 miles or do they break up and go their separate ways? These high school sweethearts decide to spend one last night recalling some fun memories of their relationship and making a decision before heading off to college in the morning.
I am so conflicted by this book now. I remember reading it as a heartbroken teen myself and this book became a soothing balm for the wounds on my heart. But now at 24, I know the practical decision would be to break up (personal preference, I don't take LDRs really well)
This book definitely suits the YA readers who are in that age category of figuring out college, but as someone who's put all that behind her, this book took me a while to tug on my heart (but it did, I assure you)
Yes the drama is a little excessive, but aren't all high school relationships dramatic and didn't we all have a black and white, be all or end all, mindset back when we were teenagers? It felt almost nostalgic as Clare and Aidan revisit the places that are significant to their relationship and sometimes it felt like I was intruding on their last night, as if they were real people and not fictional characters.
The story takes place in one night which I love! The author really lets the plot take over with this one, slowly developing the characters along the way as the story progresses. Even though the side characters seemed to be there for only 10 percent of the story, their stories were also well explored. The story may have been about a high school relationship but all the side characters helped to form a story that was all about high schoolers going out into the world, leaving their friends, families and loved ones behind.
Sad and sweet and heartbreakingly familiar, as the book itself says, this story will hopefully resonate with a lot of teenagers bound for college.
I started rereading this book because of the new Netflix film and I have great faith that Jordan Fisher is going to play an amazing Aidan. Can't wait to finally see it on screen!

I am such a huge fan of Smith's. I was looking forward to this book after reading her others, and it did not disappoint. I love stories that take place over one night, it's just a niche I really like. I think Smith did a great job of using the one night time slot to not only explain character's pasts and inform the reader of who the character is, but also to place the reader in current time with the characters. I felt connected with Clare and Aiden from early on. Even though I didn't feel as connected to secondary characters...I don't think I was meant to, really. I was invested in this book throughout the story, which I find sometimes is hard to do, so I applaud Smith for that. I also really liked the end. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but the resolution in this book left me feeling just the way it should have.

This is one of those books that you don’t want to put down. Takes place all in one night. It’s cute and romantic and funny and sad and nostalgic. I had not heard of this until I saw Jordan fishers post about the movie coming out soon so I had to read before watching.
