I wanted to read this before watching the new Netflix movie but I honestly don't think this will add anything to the experience. This book just went around in circles- will they or will they not break up- but there wasn't any good character development driving the story.

Big oof. Truly. I had high hopes going into this, but I shouldn't have. It was a mess.
The characters: unlikeable.
The plot: frustratingly cyclical.
The ending: predictable.
I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't this? Maybe I was hoping for a bittersweet, emotional story? Give me some La La Land, "we shouldn't be together because it isn't for the best but we'll support each other," goodness... not whatever immature ridiculousness all of this was.
Okay, it's probably not fair for me to call it immature since it is a YA "romance." I wouldn't even really categorize it as romance though, because the protagonists are so clearly toxic - to one another and to their friends. It's weird and you don't want to root for them. Specifically Clare, who really just wants to make everyone in her life feel bad. It gave me the ick.
Needless to say, I read this because I wanted to watch the movie and I'm hoping with everything in me that the movie will be better than this book.

I thought this was a super cute read. It was light while also being reflective and it brought me a nice wave of nostalgia. I love that the story took place over pretty much one 12 hour period, but it packed so much in there. I loved how much of a romantic Aidan was and it balanced Clare's realist nature well. This was sweet, heartfelt and reflective on how meaningful certain life changing moments can be. This made me long for my college days and pre-college summer days all at once and I just loved the overall vibe.
