I’m so fucking mad. I really loved the concept of this book, and how each chapter was a different place that the couple was re-visiting.
But I HATED Clare. She was spoilt and only cared about herself. She threw Aidan aside from the start and then kept expecting her to take him back. Everything he did, he did wrong- according to her. He was such a sweetheart and I am sort of glad in a way that they didn’t end up together, because he deserves so much better than her.
Oh yeah, they break up and Clare says that they should stop contacting each other (hate her) and it’s all her fault (hate her) and if she really loved him she wouldn’t have just taken the easy way out and threw him aside (hate her) and she’s just such a BRAT and when Stella calls her out about it she just complains and makes her apologise even though her friend is COMPLETELY RIGHT.
Aidan is a complete idiot for loving her.
And this isn’t really a love story; it’s a story about a couple that can’t get their shit together and a girl that is horrible to her boyfriend and the author makes you THINK that it’s all going to end up happy and swell and then it’s just like “nope sorry” and it’s just stupid (yeah I know it’s in the title but c’mon the whole story was leading up to them getting back together so completely misleading and a complete waste of time).
I don’t know how I feel about Jennifer E. Smith anymore. I LOVED The Statistical Probability of Love At First Sight, but really didn’t like this one or Windfall. I have This is What Happy Looks Like- I guess that will be my deciding factor? We shall see.
I only gave this one a 2.5 instead of lower because I really did like the concept- but just hated Clare so much (I wonder if she was meant to be an unlikable character or she just came across as a complete bitch 🤔)
So IMO - skip this one and just read The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight

When their eyes meet, he smiles almost without meaning to, which is the kind of smile she loves best: It’s like a sneeze, a reflex, a twitch, helpless and automatic, and it only happens when he looks at her.

It was a quick read and frankly, at the beginning it seemed a little boring, but damn, the ending...I literally cried my heart out. For two teenagers they acted very mature and took a very hard decision. But still, they parted ways with a promise, that they would find each other later, when the time would be right. Will the time ever be right for them?
Not my most favorite book by Jennifer E. Smith, but I still loved it. A story of finding your own path, the question of to stay together or break up, and the little things in a relationship and in a person that make up something bigger. A wonderful read. I recommend it to anyone who likes realistic fiction and wants a pick me up or semi-lighthearted novel.
I do this weird thing where the more I dislike a book the faster I can read it to get it over with.
The moment the two main characters broke up about halfway through the book it was too much a sign the ending would in some way have them not break up.
I just didn't like anything about this book, but I'm also someone who reads fiction mostly for mindless reading between heavier non-fiction books, so I guess in a sense I liked the escapism of it.
While I'm someone who could be considered a hopeless romantic I was rooting against Aidan and Clare the whole time, especially Clare. There was just nothing to make me like any character in the book, except the dog Bingo. He was cool I guess.

I usually love Jennifer E. Smith but I just found this book very juvenile and uninteresting.
