Tropes/Themes:
-MF contemporary sports romance
-Professional hockey player hero
-Forbidden (she’s his teammate’s sister)
-Dual POV
-Standalone

This was just not for me. This has way too much instalove and cheesy dialogue. I also felt like all of the characters came across as super immature to the point it felt a little YA despite them being grown ass adults w/ steam. I love a good angsty taboo romance, but the forbidden aspect here was just played up way too much and unnecessarily dramatic. I have the next two books checked out from my library so I might continue on in the series, but I don’t have high hopes.

Dirty Secret is the first book in the Slayers Hockey series by Mira Lyn Kelly, featuring a spicy Rivals’s Sister/ secret romance for Vaughn and Natalie. They engaged in a hot one-night stand that left him alone and confused the next morning. When he gets traded later to the team captained by his arch nemesis, he runs into her again— Allie the girl he can’t stop thinking about. The problem? “Allie” is actually the Captain’s little sister! With sparks flying between them like it’s the Fourth of July and Vaughn’s career on the line, will they risk it all to be together for as long as they can?

This was a great way to start a series! It was relatively low angst and fast-paced, but there was just enough drama to keep things interesting. The world building was on point with plenty of compelling characters that kept the witty banter flowing and definitely had me laughing. The spicy chemistry between Vaughn and Natalie was scorching and guaranteed to make you blush, but don’t mistake Vaughn for a one-trick pony because he could be sweet too! Look out when he’s upset though, because he could teach a master class on the grumpy/broody trouble-maker on the ice!

Vaughn falls in love with his rivals sister Allie and despite knowing it would get them into trouble, they keep it on the down low until her brother walks in busting their plans.

I actually really like this haha, it was a little funny and had a real good story line. The narrators did a good job, I just wish this would have a bit more detail BUT for a shortish story it was good!!

A nice little hockey romance, about a 6 hour listen on Audible.

Great read, the whole forbbiden romance makes it more exciting. Good sexual tension, too.
