Thank you Hachette Audio for the gifted audiobook copy of Voidwalker.
I devoured this dark fantasy meets monster romance. Fionamara, a female smuggler makes a bargain with an antlered immortal to save her home (and herself) in exchange for helping him take back his domain. In the midst of the rebellion, temptation and something more grows between the two.
I really liked the setting of this story! The atmosphere felt different from most romantasy settings. The world building is accessible and not overly complicated, and I thought the portal magic was pretty cool. I liked that the different planes were coded to seasonal weather patterns. If you’re a seasonal reader like me, I recommend saving this for the cooler temps since the focus is mostly on the winter plane.
The story is compelling with high stakes and lots of tension. I especially liked the character growth of the FMC as she reckons with her past. At its core, this is a story about forgiveness.
There was strong chemistry between Fi and Antal. I really liked how their dynamic seemed to flip the script. Antal and Fi are both fiercely defiant; and together, they seem to soften each other. Each giving the other permission to let down their walls.
Overall, this was a solid start to a series that I definitely hope to continue. I recommend this to readers who enjoy fantasy romance with more of a contemporary feel in terms of dialogue, world building that’s easy to understand, and characters that need to work on themselves while dealing with perilous stakes.
🎧 I loved the audio! This was my first time listening to Amelia Hugh. She delivers both energy and emotion. I also loved the distinct voices and accents that she used for the vast cast of characters.
My rating: 4.5⭐️

“would it be so bad to be devoured?”
uh, absolutely not, because i ate this up! this was a perfect romantasy! the world and magic system was so captivating and unique, with true enemies to lovers (hell yes)
fi was a badass. i’m a sucker for strong FMCs, she was so freaking awesome. antal (our sexy monster MMC) had grumpy wet cat energy and i freaking LOVED HIM! the slow burn was was delicious and their banter was to die for.
this had so much action, drama and intrigue, i’m obsessed! truly gave me all the feelings and honesty just really had it all.
this would be a great entry book for monster romance for my romantasy girlies!
THIS SLAYYED!
i cannot wait to get my illumicrate edition of this book!
my only complaint would be repetition of several adjectives, i wish the author would have added more variety in her wording. rainbow hair, smell of ozone, okay we get it *rolls eyes* other than that, freaking awesome!
thank you to orbit and the author for the arc!

Voidwalker immediately captured my attention with the vibrant and gorgeous cover, and I’m so glad I started reading it. This book had me feeling everything from cackling to intense hurt, which for me, the best books are those that make you feel something. I also really enjoyed the relationship development between Fi and Lord Antal. They had some really great banter throughout the story. The chemistry between them was intense and easy to feel coming off the pages. I also loved the world building MacLean created along with the really unique magic system. I’m excited to explore more of it in future books in the series. The audiobook narration for this was enjoyable. Hugh did a great job bringing emotional depth to the story. The narration was also easy to follow which allowed me to stay fully immersed in the story. Overall, this book was highly enjoyable, and I’d recommend checking it out.
