This book was a great sequel for Star Crossed. In fact, I liked it better. There was a better breadth of characters (imo, with the inclusion of non-heteronormative characters, yay!) and the pacing was really good.

I think what I liked most about this book is that there were sufficient twists to make it interesting, and in fact, I was guessing twists that never happened, getting surprised by others instead.

The book, while in a series, was standalone. It ended with a cliff-hanger, but not one that took away from the story (thankfully). I'm most interested in Werne and Digger's relationship, and what Werne is up to, so I hope any future book/s would delve into that.

Well, I adored the first book in this series, Starcrossed, so it makes sense that I would love this one, too.

I think this one was a little more political than the last one (although I don't remember every detail from Starcrossed, so I could be wrong), which made it very intriguing.

Digger was back and just as fun as ever, although I do think I preferred her in the first book. She's a little more cautious this time around, I think.

Durrell was an interesting love interest that I didn't necessarily see coming. I would have guessed the prince from Starcrossed (although, maybe not, since I recently discovered that he was supposed to be in his thirties, at least), or maybe Raffin, but Durell just never seemed love interest-worthy.

The mystery was really good. I didn't see the murderer coming until right before she figured it out, which was nice for a change. One thing I would complain about was that there was some evidence against another character that was never explained.
Spoiler Those footprints of Karst's; why were they there if he didn't murder Talth Ceid?

Every character has his or her own motive, and their actions make sense. That's one of my favorite parts of this book. There aren't any unrealistic characters.

One thing I didn't like was how rushed the ending with Prince Wierolf was. Are we supposed to just believe that he won the war that easily? I didn't like that there was almost no focus on the war up until the end, especially since it was Digger who helped to start it in the first one. If she couldn't have been there, I wish there would have been more letters or something telling us what was going on.

One other comment about Durell: I really couldn't see him and Digger together. There was just something off - maybe forced - about it. After reading the entire book and taking into account what happens at the end, I do feel a little cheated by Ms. Bunce. I feel like she forced Durell and Digger to be together just so that there could be a
Spoiler love triangle
in the next one.

Spoiler speaking of the ending... wow. Tegan's back. I kind of called it, to be honest, but I wasn't sure that it was going to happen! But oh my gosh, how can she leave us hanging like this? It's cruel! I wonder how she's going to handle it... I'm a little disappointed that there is going to be a love triangle, I was so proud of Ms. Bunce for staying away from them... but I think she'll make it work. But grr, who's Digger going to pick? My vote goes to Tegan, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Digger's gonna end up with Durell anyway... hm, I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Overall, a terrific book. 4.5/5 stars (mainly because of Digger and Durell :P )

This was terrific. I knew there had to be a third book to explore the relationship between Digger and her brother, but the author kept wrapping up all the story lines. I enjoyed them but got concerned about what would fill up the third book.

Then in one word in the last paragraph, boom. I'm dying for the next book!

Currently reading and loving this book but one thing I'm struggling with... There is a brief mention of "missing fingers" in the beginning of the book and I'm wondering... When were we told she was definitely losing the fingers in the first book or this one....and which fingers? How is it that this doesn't inhibit her during the book enough to be commented on again. Did she really lose fingers or was the brief mention an oversight?

Any form of information is helpful. Thank you. I'll mark this for spoilers because it directly comments on things in both books.

Interesting. Not as exciting as the first one, but I like the characters even better. Very intriguing, and kept me guessing.

Excuse me? THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE. YOU CAN'T FREAKING END THERE.

And I can't believe the publisher refuses to publish the next book in this series! This is better than some of the popular books out there... Not that I'm going to name any. This was better than Star Crossed- I was thinking it wouldn't keep up with the mystery and suspense, due to the fact we learned almost everything in Star Crossed, BUT BOY OH BOY, was I wrong! Definitely just as suspenseful, and mysterious... Not to mention. There. Is. Romance. Seamlessly. Included. LIKE PERFECT, JUST HOW I WANTED IT. This. Book. Is. Amazing. UGHH, if the publisher don't publish the third book soon, I will DIE. LITERALLY. It feels like a love triangle may be set up for the next book though... (Durrel FTW.) and the font killed my eyes. Again. At least there was a map this time though. :)

Praying hopefully for the next book! :)

3.5 stars. I wish you could give half stars (hint, hint).
I enjoyed the book for 4 stars, but I felt the quality was 3. This was mainly due to the dialogue-which was jarring. It was far too modern sounding, much more so than the previous book. Also, the prose was stiffer. The two main plot twists were expected but well managed.
That being said, I love Digger/Celyn. As with other reviewers, I laud the strong heroine who doesn't spend her time mooning about gender equality, or how skirts are unfortunate symbols of female bondage, or how much prettier other women are, or men's hair, or any of the sundry other things that fill "strong" female character's heads these days. Mrs. Bunce's characters are often a breath of fresh air.
All in all, a good light read.

This is the follow up title to [b:Starcrossed|7877549|Starcrossed (Thief Errant, #1)|Elizabeth C. Bunce|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1284198481s/7877549.jpg|11068967], and it finds Digger back in her hometown with barely a moment to herself before she is called on to help her friend Lord Durrel Decath, he's accused of murdering his much older wife, and Digger is determined to prove his innocence. There are many complications in store as she navigates the dangerous waters of being magical while trying to figure out who she can trust. Meanwhile the war draws closer. . .

Like the previous novel there are a lot of characters and terminology. Intricately plotted and written it's worth the read, the twist at the end making the next book highly anticipated.

Quite good. I liked the leads, Digger and Durrel, a great deal and it was just a fun story overall. It's discouraging to think we might never receive the third installment, though.
