I feel like there were too many characters, so you didn't develop enough attachment to them and many of them didn't really have a role in the plot. I also felt like the back and forward between the end and beginning gave too much away too early and affected the pacing. It didn't really build-up in the same way other thrillers do and the ending felt rushed and by that point, predictable, as it had been hinted at since page 1. I loved the setting and found the writing addictive though.

The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley was well written, but I was surprised by how similar it was to the Guest List. I found it enjoyable, but a lot of the moments felt similar enough to bring specific scenes back to mind, and that, combined with the format of the writing being identical, made them feel more similar than I would have preferred. Even the twist at the end felt a little similar. I wasn’t super thrilled by the side plot that was seemingly forgotten until it was needed to “throw off” the reader, and because of that the intended result wasn’t effective. Even though I found this book to be enjoyable, it wasn’t as thrilling for me because I felt like I had already read it. I really love Lucy Foley’s writing, I just wish there was a little more variation between the two books I’ve read by her. If you’re a fan of suspense novels with non linear timelines though, Foley is probably a good author for you. I would just recommend choosing which book to read (The Guest List was a little better in my opinions), rather than reading more than one (or at least not reading them close together).

Quick read but ultimately not for me. The quality of writing just isn’t there and many of the characters are unnecessary to the plot, sometimes even disappearing for chapters at a time. Characters are also shallow, and the number of red herrings/loose threads is annoying (why is the serial killer even mentioned??)

I really enjoy her writing and the characters she created in this book, but the ending was a bit dull and happened too quickly. It didn't feel satisfying. Including the perspective of the murderer in the epilogue would've been nice instead of getting that information through another character's perspective, but it wouldn't have changed my mind on the ending feeling rushed. I think Heather & Doug were my favorite characters overall, but none of them were written poorly. Overall, I enjoyed everything except the last few pages of the climax.
