This couple breaks you heart, but also put it back together

Law and Libby have trunks, not baggage. When they enter into an uneasy alliance to find the true owner of a local restaurant their forced proximity and genuine friendship lead them to open up to each other. Will their pasts prevent them from having a future? Twists and turns ramp up the tension making this an enthralling read.

Law and Libby’s love story will have you on the edge of your seat from page one to the end. As they wind their way through the obstacles between them they will have to reveal their secrets, their scars, and their most vulnerable sides to each other, but all of that will lead to a love that neither of them believed in just a short time ago. Roxanne St. Claire weaves a spell so binding that you’ll be unable to put this one down until you get to the end, and then you’ll be sad that it’s over.

Lawson (Law) Monroe was the sous chef at the Mimosa Key Ritz-Carlton when Jake Carpenter, his surrogate father, friend and proprietor of the Toasted Pelican, dies of a stroke. Law has begged Jake for years to allow him to turn the seedy bar into a "gastropub" and on his deathbed, Jake told him that he wanted him to have the bar. But, soon after, Law runs into serious obstacles finding Jake's will and the owners of the shell company barring him from taking over. Libby Chesterfield, Law's high school dream, is behind the stonewalling and the two of them go head-t0-head in battling over the property and their obvious personal attraction.

Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to Law's story as I'd judged him (unfairly) as shallow and sexist. Trust St. Claire to turn my opinion on its head as not only was he a man of true substance but was someone quite admirable given all he'd overcome. Libby represents all those gorgeous women we think are so lucky to have those physical gifts but is dying inside to be taken seriously and judged for those things other than exterior assets.

This was a complicated story despite Law and Libby's glib banter. Figuring out the mystery behind Jake's ownership of the bar and Libby's true paternity was a bit gnarly and interesting. But, I wasn't charmed by her offbeat mother, who created lots of unnecessary drama in her children's lives. It was such a good book and am glad I didn't put it off. And, the good news is there will be three more silver fox stories! Well done as it's such a nice change of pace to read about more mature characters. Loved it!

(I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review)

So far I truly enjoyed all "Barefoot Bay Timeless" series. In the Barefoot Bay Universe, I reckon "Timeless" is about older characters (40s and older), it's a nice change from all the contemporary romance about 20-something lovers and it makes for less drama. That's a really good thing in my book. I love some good angst in my romance but sometimes I must say I feel too old for some of the contrived situations authors come up with.
Less is more and this is exactly what you'll get with the "Barefoot Bay Timeless" series with still enough conflict to keep things interesting.

Law and Libby got me reading throughout in about a day, I enjoyed their slow burn romance lead by some playful flirting and a pinch of antagonism due to their legal battle over a property they both want to acquire.
Overall a charming read, with enough steam to keep my romance reader self happy. Bring on the next!

All the Barefoot Bay titles can be read as standalones. So far in the Barefoot Bay Universe, there are 18 books releases.
-3 in the Timeless series—older heroes
-5 in the Undercover series—spies and undercover agents finding their HEA
-3 in the Brides series
-3 in the Billionaires series
-4 in the original Barefoot Bay series.

This series is advertised as being about sexy, hot, older men. But let's face it, Silver Foxes can always get hot girls of any age. The hero of this book, Lawson (aka Lawless, Law) is the poster boy of girl magnet power. What is amazing about this series is that these hot men actually fall in love with women their own age. Law has known Libby "Chesty" chesterfield since high school where he blew his chance with her when he blew off a date because he was drunk. Fast forward to the present when they meet at a high school reunion. Law is now a sous-chef at a local hotel and Libby is a twice-divorced yoga instructor. They both have designs on the local dive the Toasted Pelican.
As they work through their personal issues as well as business issues, their walls start to come down and they open themselves up to a real relationship they both are able to overcome the hurts of the past to work towards a future together.
This book goes to show that older people not only can have hot sexy relationships but that readers still want to see them do it.

LOVED SO MUCH!!!

I pretty much fell in love with Lawson "Lawless" Monroe when we met him in Barefoot at Sunset. There is just something about him that made me want to give him a hug and fix all his problems. I knew he needed a super strong woman to be his equal, and Libby Chesterfield more than meets those requirements.

Law and Libby has some pretty amazing chemistry that goes back all the way to high school. I absolutely love the banter between them, which was basically foreplay that had gone on for years...recently months. I loved that both Law and Libby are totally flawed characters, yet totally determined how they each will turn their lives around. However, they both want the Toasted Pelican to make their individual dreams come true, Libby for a yoga studio and Law for a gastropub. I loved they both wanted to have a business that took care of others, even though they had different visions of how it needed to be done.

The chemistry had been there between Libby and Law from the first time we saw them together at their class reunion meeting, and the more time they spent together, the harder it was for either of them to keep their hands to themselves. They had some sizzling hot love scenes and their chemistry was off the charts hot. However, they had both been hurt in the past and trust seemed to be harder for them both to find, especially Libby. Both Libby and Law have family issues from the past, and I really think they got each other even more because of those issues.

I've absolutely loved each of the books in the new Barefoot Bay Timeless series, but have to say Barefoot at Midnight was my absolute favorite so far. It made me laugh out loud at time and cry at others. Any book that pulls multiple emotions from me is always a winner in my book. I highly recommend Barefoot at Midnight to all readers who love contemporary romances, and especially those who love a more mature hero and heroine.
