Welp, this one didn’t work out for my like I was hoping. I had mixed feeling throughout and then towards the end one of the reveals happens and I was like, ok! Yeah! And then later there was a twist related to that reveal that bummed me out lol. I will say there were a lot of twists in this and I didn’t see most of them coming. But the two MCs were bleh. I liked the cops better actually! But the format of this was irksome at times. It switches POVs and timelines throughout but sometimes there are sections that are the literal same just from the other person’s POV. When it was repetitive like that it wasn’t my fav. But otherwise all the switching kept things interesting. All in all, the mystery happening underneath all the covid here kept me hooked enough to want to finish this, but it wasn’t my fav. And if you follow me on insta, you saw me asking if I should continue 😂 I’m not totally sure I’m glad I did. But… into the next!

This book took me exactly 3 days to read. The amount of plot twists in it are INSANE. A crazy page turner FILLED with plot twists (not only 2 or 3 but way more), everytime you think you got the pieces together you realize that yoy were FAR OFF. My fav characters are the detectives Lee and Karl, love their sass. They added a light aspect to the book. But all I got to say is this was an EXPERIENCE, made me realize how crazy the pandemic was **the book takes place during the early days of the pandemic**. The timeline goes back and forth, my fav parts were how you would read about an event casually as if its a random description of the scene, but then the author goes back to this event chapters later and shows you why it happened the way it did but from the characters' (Oliver & Ciara) POV.

This book turned out to be better than I thought it would be. As a thriller it’s well written and hits the mark for the slow, intentional unwinding of info while simultaneously wheeling you in to commit to figuring out what’s going on. The author played with timelines and also perspectives throughout the chapters which I found especially interesting and a smart strategy for telling this story. The end had a few twists that I hadn’t predicted but was able to call as the final details unwound. I also surprising was not annoyed by the Covid-19 setting which is saying a lot cause I can’t get past GO in Wish You Were Here. Anyways if you like thrillers or even relationship fiction this is the book for you!

I started off really getting into this narrative, but it did throw me when the POV first changed. I really thought we might get an organic unfolding of two people not being able to quarantine together for more socially relevant reasons, but there was this whole background story and ulterior motives were involved, and the plot twists didn’t hit the mark for me. They seemed to abruptly plateau and felt anti-climactic. I did find the ending intriguing though. I just wanted it to go a little deeper.

While this book definitely had some great twists that I was not anticipating, this moved along extremely slowly. I don’t quite think the repetition of the same events was quite for me.

Fair warning: If you're not ready for novels set during the early days of the pandemic, you'll want to steer clear of this one.

As for me, I've surprised myself with my growing willingness to read books that do portray those early days, and I have to admit there isn't a much better setting for a closed-room mystery than during the lockdown.

I liked the way this novel unfolded slowly, and how it was really about the characters and what drove them. That's always my favorite kind of mystery. Yes, there are twists and turns here, and I was surprised, but I'd so much rather the focus be on the characters than on convoluted plot twists, and that's what this book delivered.

Furthermore, I enjoyed the dynamic between the police detectives and wouldn't mind reading another book featuring them.
