56 Days by Catherine Ryan Howard

4.0

Fair warning: If you're not ready for novels set during the early days of the pandemic, you'll want to steer clear of this one.

As for me, I've surprised myself with my growing willingness to read books that do portray those early days, and I have to admit there isn't a much better setting for a closed-room mystery than during the lockdown.

I liked the way this novel unfolded slowly, and how it was really about the characters and what drove them. That's always my favorite kind of mystery. Yes, there are twists and turns here, and I was surprised, but I'd so much rather the focus be on the characters than on convoluted plot twists, and that's what this book delivered.

Furthermore, I enjoyed the dynamic between the police detectives and wouldn't mind reading another book featuring them.
