Such a fun book! I loved the original too, but this one was even more fun, I think. I laughed out loud on several occasions, and there are some fun references to various bits of sci-fi/fantasy pop culture that will fly right over kids' heads, but that adults will enjoy. The characters are a joy and a good mix of personalities. I love how this series is developing and hope to see more!

I'm loving this series! I'm reading it with with my adventure hungry 6 year old, and we're having SOOO much fun! (Warning: If you plan to read this aloud, be careful what character voices you commit yourself to- there are three books *so far* in the series, so make them sustainable!)
My daughter loves a bit of peril, but not too much physical or *emotional* pain, and this is the perfect amount of adventure and still fun for her. And, for my little warrior, the characters are both fantastic fun and fantastic examples.
Spoilers are minimal, (no details,) but if you want to go in completely blind stop here.
I love that the gruff father whom the children worry they will disappoint ends up emphasizing that he will be proud of his son if he tries what he loves, not what he thinks dad expects. The warrior girl admits that sometimes she is afraid, and receives love and acceptance for it. The girl who aspires to be a princess watches her hair, but also wants to be the best diplomat the world has ever seen, and she largely is! The enemy is not always the monster, a fight can end in a truce, and no one can be a hero on their own. And because of the love between the characters, they never have to.

This book was just as good as the first! Claudette is such a wonderful character! She breaks gender barriers and kicks some butt! In general, the personalities found in Dragons Beware are well crafted and fit the purpose they have (I especially liked the comic relief of the princes, though some were a bit whiny). It has a great theme and is truly a fun adventure. I'll definitely be buying this for my classroom (already have Giants Beware!).

Just as adorable as the first (am I saying adorable too much this year?).

I like this little firespit who doesn't hear the word 'no'. I love her little brother, trying to fit in the mold but pulled back to his talents and passion. I hope my kiddo turns out more like this princess than the spoiled brat we are raising her to be. Even the townspeople are loyal but not stupid.

Very enjoyable.

Charming and clever. For some reason the kids weren't interested even though I thought it'd be perfect for my seven-year-old. I couldn't resist reading it myself, and it was just as cute as I thought it would be.

(three-and-a-half stars)

An enjoyable sequel to GIANTS BEWARE but I missed the sense and feel for character development that came in the first book that wasn't present in DRAGONS BEWARE. This volume spent more time on action sequences and less time on characterization and as someone who prefers character-driven stories, I definitely felt like there was something missing. Especially since the first book balanced the two so well.
