Dragons Beware! by Jorge Aguirre

5.0

I'm loving this series! I'm reading it with with my adventure hungry 6 year old, and we're having SOOO much fun! (Warning: If you plan to read this aloud, be careful what character voices you commit yourself to- there are three books *so far* in the series, so make them sustainable!)
My daughter loves a bit of peril, but not too much physical or *emotional* pain, and this is the perfect amount of adventure and still fun for her. And, for my little warrior, the characters are both fantastic fun and fantastic examples.
Spoilers are minimal, (no details,) but if you want to go in completely blind stop here.
I love that the gruff father whom the children worry they will disappoint ends up emphasizing that he will be proud of his son if he tries what he loves, not what he thinks dad expects. The warrior girl admits that sometimes she is afraid, and receives love and acceptance for it. The girl who aspires to be a princess watches her hair, but also wants to be the best diplomat the world has ever seen, and she largely is! The enemy is not always the monster, a fight can end in a truce, and no one can be a hero on their own. And because of the love between the characters, they never have to.
